Established in June 2008, the Denver Gay and Lesbian Flag Football League (DGLFFL) is an organization of men and women that promotes the positive social and athletic enjoyment of flag football.  We seek to foster an athletic community among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight people living in the greater Denver area.

Prior to the league’s creation, a small cadre of local athletes organized ad hoc games that attracted 15 to 30 players on consecutive Sundays throughout the year.  As interest grew, so too did the demand for greater structure, education, and financial resources.  Thus the birth of the DGLFFL and a dramatic increase in the number of people interested in playing, currently listed at just over 200 players and supporters.

The DGLFFL will operate two seasons of play – Fall and Spring – with at least six teams of 12.  During the course of these seasons, the league’s leadership will provide a variety of services necessary to create and build a successful league.  For instance, we will host several skills clinics designed to teach the fundamentals of football and the particulars of flag football.  We will also hire and train referees to comply with national flag football rules and procedures.

To underwrite the costs associated with operating a league, DGLFFL will select one “League Sponsor” and a number of “Team Sponsors” to partner with us in the building of Denver’s only flag football league that actively incorporates gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and straight athletes.  Additional information on sponsorship is included in the corresponding “Sponsorship” section of this website.

Finally, we note that the DGLFFL is part of the governing association of The National Gay Flag Football League (NGFFL).  Since the league's inception in 2000 and the first national tournament held in Los Angeles in the spring of 2002, teams from all around the country have come together to compete and raise awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered athletes.  Currently, there are 18 cities in the United States that have a national flag football team represented in the Gay Bowl Tournament, held annually.
